Are you suffering from depression? Anxiety? Excessive worry? Are you looking to talk with an expert to assist you with reducing the above feelings and have not located the "right" therapist for you - someone that you have not connected with yet? Finding the right therapist can be a personal journey, but the following suggestions may help you...
Research. Look for therapists who specialize in the specific area you need help with, such as anxiety or depression. Read their profiles and see if their qualifications aligns with your needs.
Ask for recommendations. Reach out to friends, family, or trusted healthcare professionals for therapist recommendations. Hearing about a positive therapist from individuals you trust, may give you a good starting point.
Consider your preferences. Think about what you want in a therapist - a specific gender? A specific cultural background? Would you want someone who takes a more practical approach or a spiritual approach? What feels right to you?
Check with your insurance. If you have insurance, check what therapists are paneled with your insurance company. This can help narrow down your options and make therapy more affordable.
Schedule consultations. Most therapists offer free initial consultations. Take this opportunity to ask questions, share the concerns you would like to discuss - at this time, you will get a sense of their personality and style...if it is something you feel comfortable, schedule the first session.
Remember, finding the right therapist may take time, and that's okay. You will want a therapist that you connect with, after all, you are prioritizing your mental health - wouldn't you want a therapist that you feel comfortable with?
This was really helpful to read. I try to be mindful at least once per day. This helped to support my ongoing journey!
